Last Monday, the Middle School students partnered up with the Islanders for a morning of reading! Each group worked so well together!
The Islanders are in the final stretch of their most recent Social Studies project! We were able to dig deep and explore the world of Economics in Michigan and the United States. Here are some highlights of their "Market Place" projects that we plan to have on display this Friday for our next Learning Celebration at 1:45! We hope to see you there! Hello!! The Islanders have been working hard, exploring much, and showing great effort! We apologize for the lack in posts recently! Time just slipped away! Today, students from CMU visited us to teach us some wonderful lessons on why it's really NOT okay to start smoking cigarettes. The kids were involved in some pretty neat hands-on activities as well as some very honest and open discussions. It is wonderful being able to take a step back from the books, and explore these topics as well! Make sure you take the time at home to ask your child what they were able to take from today's lessons. Honestly, the teachers learned some new things too! It was an informative day for us all! The Mackinac Team in Ms. Nemeth's room had their first book projects due today. They looked great!!! We enjoyed all of the presentations and the impressive summaries!! Way to go, Islanders! Mackinac Island has their next book project due on Jaunuary 8, 2015!! This Thursday, December 4th, the Islanders on Mackinac Island (Nemeth) and Beaver Island (Bierlein) each have their Book Projects and summaries due. DO NOT FORGET!! :) Also, as stated this week in the agendas, the students in Ms. Nemeth's class will no longer be doing the weekly reading log that was kept in the homework folder. Students are still REQUIRED to read for at least 30 minutes every school night, or make up that time on their own during the week if their schedule is busy. Each month, a book project will also be due. Please don't stop reading! This Friday, December 5th, every student will be bringing home their report card in a sealed envelope. This is different than what the Renaissance Academy has done in the past. The layout of the report card is also different, but the staff is very excited about how we will be communicating the progress of your child in this new format. When reading the report card, think of it as a "grow with your child" idea. This means, you will see in which direction your child is headed per subject, and what he or she needs to do to get to the next step. As usual, the staff at Renaissance will be answering questions for all of you. Please see us. So don't forget! This Friday, look for that envelope! The Islanders want to thank all of those who took the time to come out and support the students who worked so hard on their Social Studies and Writing projects. Every Islander stood proudly to present to such a large audience on November 21st. Your teachers are EXTREMELY proud of your hard work and problem solving skills these last few weeks! We are excited to see how the 2nd trimester turns out! Mr. LeValley is back this year to help bring more excitement to our Science and Social Studies lessons this year! On November 21st he visited our classrooms and taught an exciting lesson on Michigan's fur trading industry! It was extremely informational and hands-on! The students were able to experience what life was like back then using props, pelts, and tools! The CMU students from the College of Medicine came back again today to teach us a lesson on spreading germs, staying healthy, and practicing great habits for the Winter season! |
